Wheat is not a staples of the Indonesian diet, but noodles are very popular even though the main ingredient are still imported. A while back instead of using just the imported wheat, noodles also can be made from rice, cassava and even sweet potato.
Instant noodles are available in much at world and all over Indonesia. This taste treat fits very well with the busy family or when one feels a bit lazy to prepare a full meal. Simple additions like sliced hard boiled eggs, vegetables of favorite spices add much more flavor to the mix. I have found this simply mie (noodle) to warm me from the inside-out on cold January mornings in Northern Minnesota.
