Being Indonesian has its perks, including having diverse cultures which numbers could be thousands in its territory that stretches 5236.34 km.
One of the unknown is a Pacu Jawi, a cow race in the West Sumatra (Jawi means cow in Minang language). Pacu Jawi is very different from Bull Race of Madura that very well known and is considered prestigious. Even to gain its prestige, those bulls were tortured in order to run fast as his eyes smeared with balsam, its jockeys spanking with a spiked wooden rod.
Pacu Jawi is not like that. One of many differences is the racing held in muddy paddy fields. Why muddy? Because the paddy fields after harvesting and ready for the next growing season. Unlike the Bull Race are held in dry terrain. Besides the Pacu Jawi is not racing to get who is the fastest because they run pair after pair, unlikely Bull Race that the fastest is the winner.

Cow racing – reminds me of goat racing and crab racing – traditional games held during Easter on the Caribbean island of Tobago!
Wow!! I wonder how crab racing looks like.
People tie a string around the crab and prod it along with a stick – sometimes the crab doesn’t exactly walk in a straight line but all over the place. It’s quite funny, actually.
Very interesting.
I do hope you have a chance to take a couple picture of it. Do you live in Tobago?
I used to live there for a while, over 20 yrs ago. Now I live in the US.
I’m so curious about crab racing, then I google it at youtube, this is one of them.
It’s so funny. LOL
So funny that you found a video… it almost makes me a bit homesick for my adopted Caribbean home….
Owh… I’m so sorry to cause you homesick.
I never heard about crab racing before and that’s make me so curious.
Love the bull races!!
I love it too but I do not want to get closer.

Wah pantesan patung Libertynya pegang buku terus, rupanya kolornya keselip di sono.
nGgak apa-apa lah kalau keselip, ketimbang ditemu orang, disangka kolor seleb. Takutnya terus dilelang, laku mahal.
